Our Story

Excite's journey began in 1952, 67 years ago, when GE San Jose Federal Credit Union was originally founded.  Now with over 40,000 members, our purpose has been re-imagined to give everyone a chance to build a financially stronger future, so together we can build a stronger community.  

Excite Credit Union was created with the idea that we should put people ahead of profits. People are at the heart of everything we do: members, employees, and our communities. Sure, we could tell you our numbers are strong. 40,000 members, six counties, two coasts, and $483 million in assets. But people are more than numbers.

And that’s why we nurture the potential in every person. When we extend a mortgage to a new family, we help them create a life where they can prosper. When we open a checking account for a new college grad, they partner with a credit union that’s on their side and determined to see them succeed. And when we invest in our local non-profits to help them thrive, we make an investment in our community’s present and future. We work hard each day not to grow our profits, but to be a force of strength, stability, and revitalization for our communities.

Excite Credit Union is a new brand with history. Formerly known as Alliance, we've stepped up our brand into the modern era with a new name and purpose while holding true to our heritage.  We're glad you decided to stop by and be a part of this journey.  This video is a peek into our new developing brand.

The name Excite is our approach to being modern, fresh, and less complicated.  We want the name to be memorable. We're a credit union - a financial cooperative, and proudly support our community by putting people above profits.

Our new logo is modern, bold, and uses more vivid colors than before.  Why is the "t" raised, you ask?  Because it's stepping up to better banking - and we hope you do too.

What's Ahead

Over the course of the next several months, we will be transitioning to our new brand. Expect to see signage going up in September, with changes inside branches during October. During this time you will also see a brand new look to our debit and credit cards (you will receive a new card once your current one expires) 

Also, expect to see a new and modern website with more relevant information with you in mind in the near the future.

FAQs

Q: Why are we changing our name to Excite Credit Union?

A: We’re changing our name – not our commitment to you, our members or all of the communities we serve. The Alliance name has served us well, but as we look at who we are today and how our membership has transformed over the years, we want a name that really reflects us without any confusion on who we are. Before even considering a name change, we surveyed members and employees to get input about the name change.  The name Excite better expresses our goals, and our commitment to the communities we serve.

Q: What can we expect to change?
A: Expect quite a few cosmetic changes in the upcoming months.  Everything from exterior signage, brochures, stationary, and more will be updated.  You should also expect to see a brand new website!
 
Q: What can we expect to stay the same?
A: There will be no impact to your day-to-day banking, account numbers, or login information.
Rates and fees will not be affected by the name change. We will continue to monitor our rates and fees as we always have to ensure high value and return to you, the member. Rates and fees do fluctuate, as they adjust in response to market conditions.  Membership eligibility and locations will remain the same.
 
Q: Will the credit union’s contact information change (e.g. phone numbers, website and email addresses)?
A: All phone numbers will remain the same. We will announce the new website address and email addresses with the reveal of the new name in the coming months.
 
Q: Is the name change a result of a merger or acquisition? 
A: No. The name change is not the result of a merger or acquisition of any kind. The name change is part of a comprehensive plan to grow and continue building a healthy and sustainable organization serving you and future generations.  


Q: Will the ownership of the credit union remain the same? 
A: Yes.  The credit union will remain 100% owned by you, the members.
 
Q: Will my direct deposit be affected?
A: No.  This change is cosmetic only and will not affect your personal records or day-to-day operations.
 
Q: Will my credit/debit card be replaced?
A: Yes, over time, all credit/debit cards will get replaced as they expire and new cards are issued.

A: Further questions can be answered in branch or by calling us directly at 800.232.8669.
